SSI and PADI requirements

One of the many questions asked regarding our dive programs is, what is the minimum age you have to be to go scuba diving? While for both major diver organizations, SSI and PADI, the age requirement to scuba dive is 10 years old, it really depends on the physical ability of the child.

Junior Open Water Certification

Divers aged 10-15 are able to complete the Junior Open Water certification, and later improve into an Open Water certification. However, children over the age of 8 also have the possibility to try scuba diving, by doing a bubble maker course. This program entails the child learning underwater skills in the perimeters of a pool at the depth of 2-3 meters.

What does it teach?

Starting to scuba dive at a young age definitely has its benefits as it trains water survival skills and also allows one to feel more comfortable in aquatic settings. Another advantage of scuba diving at a young age is the education about our oceans and learning to appreciate nature. Junior Open Water teaches children skills and discipline that will contribute to their development and be beneficial in life allowing them to be quick problem solvers and stay calm in stressful situations.
